日経ＢＰは人材のリストラにも着手せざるをえなくなった。まずは、判例による「整理解雇４要件」の１つ「解雇回避努力義務の履行」を満たすべく、派遣切りを断行した。
ある部署では、皆でお別れ会をやった。「割り切れない思いでした。真面目にしっかり仕事をしてくれていたのに、気の毒で、残念。もっと切られるべき正社員はいくらでもいるのに…」（社員）。切られた派遣社員は気を悪くすることなく正社員のお別れ会にも参加したという。
正社員のほうのリストラは、大々的に行われた。2009年9月に、50人程度を目標とする希望退職者の募集を発表。対象は、40歳以上58歳未満で、対象者は667人。社員は922人（2009年4月現在）なので、日経ＢＰは社員の72％が40代以上という超高齢化企業ということになる。バブル期に入社した40代が多いのだという。
